I am new to Alaska. I recently moved here to start a new business. I am from Missouri originally and have been seeking out local "old-time" musicians. I have seen a lot on the Athabascan fiddlers but I am looking for more of the traditional music found in the south that would have been brought up during the gold mining period.

Some of the fiddlers I play like would be Lonnie Robertson, Bob Holt, James Bryan, Art Galbraith, Art Stamper and so on. 

If anyone fiddler or other play Old-time in Anchorage, hit me up, I'd like to meet sometime and play some music. See my recent post on my profile to hear some of the fiddling I do. I also play clawhammer banjo (and have a banjo hangout account) and guitar.

Jeremy.... there's a bunch, and a couple are members here.   "alaskafiddler" is one, "Carter" is another.

 "change is good" recently moved to Tennessee from Anchorage, and could also fill you in on the Anchorage jamming scene.

I hope at least one, maybe several will be along shortly to tell you more... if not, you could try contacting them.

Hey Jeremy. There is a very healthy group of musicians in Anchorage - for just about any kind of music you want to play. For the size of Anchorage you will be amazed at how many and how talented.

For Old Time music there are 2 open jams each week (unless that has changed over the past year). On Tuesday nights there a group of folks who play at an Irish Pub downtown called McGinleys. They usually start around 8 PM and ends when folks go home. Usually between 6 - 12 folks show up. George Sleichter (alaskafiddler) is the person who keeps things together.

And on Thursday night another group of folks meet at a Pizza place call Guidos - around the middle of town (or there about). It usually starts around 8 PM and ends when folks go home. Usually about 6- 12 folks (most always different folks from the Tuesday group). Gary and Rose Fitch are the persons who keep that one going.

Both jams are strictly old time, have very friendly folks attending. They can help you with anything else you want to know about Anchorage and Alaska. Its a great place to live. I miss the music and the friends.
