Hello everyone. I know this isn't exactly fiddle related. Lately I have been interested in Welsh music/culture and have stumbled upon the crwth, a squarish, bowed lyre-like instrument. Is there anyone here on the board who has played/seen one? Apparently it is making a bit of a resurgence and so there are not a large number of makers currently. Anyone have a builder that they know of? Thanks

Looks like there are some builders in the UK, from a quick Google search. I would be interested in making one if I could find plans.

The longer I hang out here the more I learn.
Here's a video that explains its history and development youtube.com/watch?v=562-Hsa84jc
Here are two videos that show one crwth with a violin style tail piece and one with a slanted tail piece. : youtube.com/watch?v=nBWpB5zlerI and youtube.com/watch?v=JZGzGlhr0D4

I got interested in the crwth a couple of years ago. In the end I decided I had enough to learn with the instruments I already had.
I found a number of pretty scary samples of crwth playing on you-tube, then I came across this lady, who plays it beautifully. Give her a listen: youtube.com/watch?v=GcdXN7Wl0fY
