To all of you fortunate enough to be within driving range of West Linn, Oregon (just on the south edge of Portland), the Marylhurst University Musical Instrument makers' show is this Saturday and Sunday (May 3rd and 4th), from 12:30 to 5:30 PM

nwmusicalinstrumentshow.org/

Admission is so cheap as to be almost a formality ($3), and the concerts (all afternoon, both days) are free.

Last year there were two banjo makers, three or four mandolin makers, two or three Ukulele makers. one Orchestral harp maker, on maker of traditional Persian instruments, one of traditional Mexican instruments, maybe ten violin-family instrument makers, one double bass maker, and 50-60 guitar makers of every imaginable type.

If you are in the area, and/or can make time for the show, please come. We'd love to meet as many of you as possible.

(BTW, if you look at my homepage, you can see one of the instruments I will be showing; a new five-string fiddle. fiddlehangout.com/my/Chet+Bishop)

Hope to see you there.

Hi, folks: These photos were all taken the second day of the show, during set-up time. Everyone there in the pictures is either a maker or associated with one. The public came in at 12 noon.

There were not as many people coming through this time-- maybe 300 the first day and 500 the second day.  I didn't have any sales, but I did have a nice visit with Ken Pollard, of Idaho, and a few other folk I knew. Good weekend...tired out, now. :-)

Wow, quite a range of goodies there! Thanks, Chet.

Yep. There was something for every player.

BTW, I failed to mention it...(in fact, I did not notice it myself until the pictures were on my computer) but, in that first photo. the young couple in the center is my youngest son and his girlfriend. Brian builds very high-quality guitars, of all sorts, as well as Ukuleles. I had hoped he would share my table and exhibit in this show; but he opted out this year for personal reasons. Maybe next year.
