Started at 46, 49 now. Self taught for the most part. No hurry to get where I'm going although I practice or play every morning for 15 to 30 minutes. After 3 years I've only have learned 6-7 songs. Like I said I'm in no hurry.

50 for me. Played guitar since I was around 13 or 14. Can't remember. Too many years ago.

So far I've got everybody beat. Started when I was 79, am 82 now, but my playing is not too hot. Have played for my wife some, but nobody else! Our dog doesn't start howling or running from the room when I play, so guess it isn't too wild. Sure enjoy reading y'all's comments. Yep, southern to the core. ROLL TIDE! Johnny Football got a 'lesson' this past weekend from us southern folks. Have fun playing fiddles. Delap Dave

I started at age 64 and it is a tough go, but I love it. I wish I had had the opportunity as a child, but better late than never. Am doing battle with my bow arm now...

I started at 48 about two years ago. I've had some really good instructors help me out and I practice daily. I'm a long way from proficient but I sound pretty good considering. I tell people this is my mid life crisis - cheaper than a red sports car and more acceptable to my wife than a young blonde. I love it.

I started at 70, it was a mad impulse, having played banjo and now Autoharp, I thought Fiddle.

Not as easy as A/H but I get more notes, some not even on the sheet, but the freedom!!!!

Not allowed to play at our sessions yet but that should come in time, so I scrape along with Marl O'Connor etc on my pc, only the slow one's of course, and very enjoyable.

I played in elementary school and then took it up again about 10 years ago. I'll be 51 in two weeks. Tell him to find a good instructor for at least the first two years and regular consistent practice is the best. Even if you can only manage to squeeze in 15 or 20 minutes most days.
