the new fiddle i just bought has no notches in the bridge for the strings to sit in so where are the strings supposed to be positioned,is the e and g string placed close to the outside of the bridge and then the other two placed evenly apart.Thanks in advance for any help.
play it, don't fiddle with it.

How comes that the brideg has no nodges? Is the bridge fittet at all? (Thickness should be 4.2 mm at the feet).
You can buy a tool with which you can make evenly spaced nodges or go to a luthier, he'll do it for you. The strings are about10 mm apart. It varies depending on how you like it.

We set the strings 11.5 mm on center, and centered on the bridge. Some customers like the strings shifted a skosh to the treble side.
