There was, by Dennis Stroughmatt's own description, a Cajun (or Creole) community that lived somewhere in downstate Illinois, probably by the 'Big' River. I know there were French communities on both the Ill. & MO sides of the river e.g. St. Genivieve, MO and Prairie du Rocher, IL) down there but they weren't Cajun/Creole. So there must have been 2 types of different French cultures there.
