This is one of my favorite tunes. I play it a lot with my fiddlin' friend / Tennessee State Trooper - David Killingsworth, which you can hear at the link provided below. I chose this tune in hopes that maybe someone might help in locating the origin of the tune. I can't remember where I heard this - maybe on the Hangout, but a great tune, lots of fun to play. Maybe goes by another title. Would love to hear from Hangout members your take on this tune.

My choice for TOTW is "Skunk in the Collard Patch".

Here's another version I posted on the Hangout Jukebox with myself and hangout member Jim on the banjo. Great oldtime fiddle and banjo tune, and I just love the title - just wreaks with oldtime flavor, which as you can probably tell is my passion.

Yep, Apltrez - it is tuned standard EADG. I play it in D. Like playing in D because of all the easy double-stops you can get. It would probably sound great tuned in old sawmill tuning too. Never tried it that way, but would probably work fine. I get a lot of requests at the IHOP to play this one. They all call it the "Skunk Song".

Also, glad DougD cleared me up on the Young Fogies thing. I didn't realize that was a compilation album. I'm familiar with the Double Decker Stringband. Have some of their mp3's. Didn't realize this was one of theirs. Thanks for clearin' that up.

I'm thinkin' maybe it has an alternate title also, but after a little more research - it appears in a number of publications under the title "Skunk in the Collard Patch. By that, I'm thinking that's probably the original title. Even though it sounds oldtime in nature, I think it maybe a relatively new oldtime fiddle tune. The earliest recording date I've found so far only dates back to 1989.

That's good to know though - that their are new oldtime tunes popping up from time to time. I think that's great. We're not just rehashing old tunes over and over, although - don't get me wrong. . . I'm all for standard oldtime tunes. I like them too. It's just nice to see we still have some creativity in the oldtime music line.

I didn't see it listed in Jeff Todd Titon's book of KY fiddle tunes. So it must be "peculiar" to TN
