Help me, ust got one of thes digtal metronome from the kids for my 61 bday what do you do with the Tap & Beat? its a Korg TM-40

Hey, Sam! Welcome. I don't know that particular model, but there are many ways to use a metronome. Start with low numbers, and when you can do it at a speed without error, write that number down and start raising the speed.

You can use the beat ( audible click) to click all 4 beats of a 4/4 measure, or you can have it click on the 1 and 3 or the 3 and the 4. Or you can have it click on just the 1. In a 3/4 song, play around with the different feels that you get by having it beat on the one, then the 2, then the 3. It's all in your head on where you are having the beat be. Be creative. As you get more advanced, you can play ON the beat, behind the beat or pushing the beat. Have fun!

Sam, the tap & beat function allows you to tap on a button in the tempo you want. It will pick it upand continue so you can play along if you don't know the actual number of "beats per minute." How to do this is explained in the manual for the TM-40.

Hi Sam ,

I have the same model , the tap function allows you find a tempo. You have to press both buttons down at the same time.

Press the Metronome button ( turn the unit on )
Press to two buttons down at the same time ( the word TAP is in brackets showing what to buttons to press )
You will notice on the Screen that the TAP function has been enabled you will see TAP TEMPO
Next you can tap the ( TAP IN button ) this is the largest button on the unit. I'll use this for determining how fast music is being played.
Tap it to the music and when you are done press one of the BEAT buttons and the tempo will play back .

In the beat mode the unit allows you to divide the beat into different values .

The Whole Numbers you can use to count measures if you want.

0 and 1 seem to be the same = 1
2 = 1 2
3 = 1 2 3
4 = 1 2 3 4
5 = 1 2 3 4 5
6 = 1 2 3 4 5 6
7 = 1 2 3 4 5 6 7

The One's are the accented beat.

The other denominations are :

Eight Notes , Sixteenth Notes and Doted .
These are very helpful when trying to learn a measure of music that has say a triplet or a dotted eight note in it.

Two basic things to start out:

1- Place the metronome where you can hear it and your instrument together.

2- Set the metronome to you at first. You'll never win in an arguement with it, so this at least gives you a fighting chance at the start.

If the wheels fall off the wagon in the hard part of the tune, slow it down until you can play the whole tune in time. A metronome will get to be a pollishing tool, the better your timing gets.

I'll never stop using one. McGann taught me how to cut the nome time in half, and then half again, and then half again. . . etc. Click -play four measures-Click. . etc.
