We never got oil changes before...but now we have a Toyota and they say they have to do the oil changes or the warranties are shot...ok...well...anyway we sat there going crazy in a huge crowd...standing room only...for 2 1/2 hours and they charged me over a hundred dollars. I'm tellin' ya...I was born to be Amish...don't like cars anyway...I just hate it that you need one unless you're lucky enough to live in a small town...most of them have been destroyed by Superwalmarts and other such disasters...lol. Yeah I guess I'm sounding like an old cranky person...but we were starving and it's just hard to just stand and wait...there coffee was terrible, by the way...yeah, free, but tastes to me like the old coffee that was half chicory...half something else...which is essentially what Starbucks tastes like to me...like these blends were forum lated with the idea that people don't like black coffee...just all that whipped cream and stuff with a little coffee in it. lol...needless to say...starvin' out a groundhog like that ain't a fun day.

Peggy, you don't have to have your vehicle serviced by the dealer to maintain a warranty. It's illegal for them to suggest it. You can take it to an independent shop, a Quicklube, or even do it yourself. Oil changes have gotten expensive, though, wherever you go.
Here's some info:

Oh I had no idea. That's good to know. I couldn't stand being stranded and stuck in that place this morning and it really messed up a big part of the day. Thanks, Doug.  The things you can learn on FHO!!!!

Well, but after thinking about this for a few minutes and then imagining my telling Toyota I decided to take care of oil changes myself, but bringing the car to them to take care of some thing or other in the warranty...then my imaginary discussion in my poor ol' mind made me think they might claim I or whoever had damaged this thing or that by bad oil or bad oil changes or whatever and deny my warranty claim. Then I'd have to go to court and pay a Buncha money and probably end up losing by not being a mechanic or auto expert and not being able to defend myself...then my thought was...ouch, maybe it would be better to let them just keep me hog-tied like they have me now. I dont' know...I don't trust big corporations like that...they know how to squeeze blood out of a turnip...

Toyota was a smart move though. When I first started reading this, I thought you meant "we never change the oil in our cars" hahaha.
But hopefully that's the only thing you ever need to do is change the oil!

Lol...yeah, me too. We went out on a limb and bought this car back three years ago when we were ready to move to the old place in TN, because there would have been a lot of time on the road back and forth for us. I was trying to manage such big changes in our lives around hubby's worsening condition, hoping to do things in a way that would work for him. But we hadn't been able to get to the house in TN for a few years and found out the relatives living there had pretty much destroyed it...all on our dime, of course. So the work we had done over the years was pretty much all destroyed...long story, but cost us tens of thousands and all back to square one. We ended up asking family to leave so we could just give up and sell it before we went totally broke...at a big loss for us, but salvage whatever worth was left...so we ended up with a new Toyota anyway, and now we don't drive much...or ...I'm the only driver and I don't drive much. We wouldn't have bought the car if we had taken a trip in the old rickety car we had and seen the house as it was...but it ain't bad to have a new car...3 years old by now...but there's not much driving to do at this point. It's so different than anything we've ever had...basically a computer on wheels now's what they are. That's one reason I want the warranties...whatever goes wrong is most likely somehow computerized in one way or another...lol. Gonna have to leave it up to those guys that know all about all that stuff. So, yeah, it's a nice car, but I don't take it out to many places, and Toyota's got us hog-tied...lol...the doggies do love their trips to the places where they walk...so...there's a good one for the Chihuahuas!

If you change oil and filters, SAVE the reciepts and make sure they show what they are for. Then your warrantee will not be voided. I havent had an oil change done by anyone but me for decades, on my cars.
