Yep.. After waiting a few years we got a bumper crop of pawpaws last year.. THey are SOOOO delicious. I saved about 50 seeds, stratified them in the frig and Finally, in late JUNE they germinated (I was told that they are one of the LAST things to come up out of the ground...and it is true..Late July and some are just Now breaking ground).... I'll be passing them out to neighbors.. It is already decided that this fall I'll save EVERY seed I can get, stratify them and offer the seeds, ready to grow, in the Spring.. Should any of you live in a zone/area where they grow, let me know and if you are interested I'll send you some 'stratified' ready to grow, seeds..The zone supposedly best for them is 5-8...
Are pawpaws new to you? Have you tried them? I'd like to hear about your experiences with them..

It's good to keep them paw paws going, Lee. Keep your paw paws off my paw paws...as the old saying goes...lol. We've got 4 pawpaw trees the boy scouts gave out several years ago to help keep native plants going...they were just little sorry looking sticks but have become beautiful paw paw trees like you see in the woods...we get a lot of paw paws, but our local wildlife beat us to at least half of them. I find seeds laying all over the ground where the critters had feasts. I have no one to give any to...lol...my daughter does save them and mail them away to some people. She got paw paws from the Boy Scouts the same time I did. I also got a Kentucky coffee tree, which the deer just didn't give a chance to grow, and two or three persimmon trees...only one persimmon tree made it through storms that we had back then, and it got split...I fixed it with tape, string, pegs and ropes...etc. It leans pretty bad and is only half of a tree...the leaves come on really nice but it has never yet produced a persimmon.
Our neighbor has a persimmon tree. They get orange and big and fat and juicy…and it’s close to the sidewalk. It’s been hard to keep our paws off them! We have said things like, “She won’t notice if we take one…” So far we have resisted, LOL.
Have not come across paw paw trees around here, but it’s zone 7-8 … maybe towards the edge of their heat tolerance.

Google says that they should grow in zones 7-8... Maybe in the spring I can send you some stratified seeds that will germinate in late july/august!!!..In a few years you'll have your own pawpaw patch..
Paw Paw taste as described by internet:
"Pawpaw fruit is often described as tasting like a blend of banana and mango, sometimes with hints of pineapple, citrus, or even vanilla. It has a creamy, custard-like texture and can be quite sweet." Yummy!
I will think about it, thank you, Lee!! :-)
I have not had good luck with harvesting fruit from plants in the past...birds, squirrels, raccoons, you name it...never even got a single berry...:-D

Right then one fell out of a tree and hit me on the head. Picked it up and had a bite. #synchronicity
..:ask and ye shall receive!!..
Lee, here's an idea you might wanna guzzle up on for a while, so to speak...maybe even cross the border for a taste, or do they sell Ale 8 in your area?
Anyway, it's the weirdest idea I've ever heard of...not sure I'd like to try one, myself...lol...but maybe.

I recently saw that product in Kentucky (I think).. Didn't know it had a PawPaw option..
I was just thinking that I'll have seeds available THIS WINTER for people who want to stratify and plant their own tree seeds in the spring.. They won't pop up until June, July or even August.. One must be patient to grow pawpaws. So if any of the Hangout readers would like some seeds just send me a personal message. Also, next spring I'll offer Stratified seeds for planting AND I'll have about 2 year old trees available..
Ale 8 is sold around here - we'll have to look for the paw paw flavor.
Meanwhile, I know this is "Not Fiddle Related," but since Ale 8 is made in Winchester, here's a YouTube I recently came across that I think was filmed in Winchester one Christmas season a long time ago. Lee Sexton, fiddle; Phil Sexton, banjo; I'm playing guitar.

As hot and awful a summer as it's been around here...our little garden is pumping out bumper crops of what little I had the motivation to get going this year. I'm not really in the mood for all the gardening...really been too busy, worried, nervous and depressed to get much into it...so a lot of ours is just going unused. I took a big box (I counted 50 or so) killer tomatoes (because the tomato vines have been practically throwing tomatoes at us) to the VA earlier this summer...I don't feel like canning them or even freezing them or making preserves or any of that. So we're eating maybe three a week and throwing about 30 a week to the groundhogs across the way. Okra comin' out our ears and beans...I'm not even picking the beans...just can't get up the motivation to do stuff this year. We got to where we grow mainly rattlesnake half-runners...otherwise known as preacher beans...so they are drying up on the vines and I'll just keep the seeds for next year. Got sweet taters and those vines are crawling all over the place, but we eat those just about everyday and then we'll turn out the taters at the end of summer. The critters are grabbing up the pears and almost-ripened paw paws and grapes...we do have apples coming...not that much but some. My peppers aren't ripe enough yet...but coming along. Didn't grow much else. Wouldn't ya know the year of the tariffs is when I lose my motivation for gardening and putting food by...lol...that's not workin' out for me, is it? Hopefully we don't starve to death. Sounds like coffee's gonna be really expensive soon, already has gone up quite a bit here.

Busy, busy.. Just to keep it in perspective.. there are MILLIONS of people who would love to have those problems. Stay cheerful, stay grateful, express Gratitude and Never feel guilty because you are lucky to have 'enough'.. If anything, harvest as much as you can and GIVE the excess to your local outreach organizations.. but, you already know this..! (buy 3-4 Large jars of instant coffee, and you (and me ) will come through this smiling!!! Cheers..
