Yesterday, I attended a memorial party for Dwight Red Lamb.
I hope everyone who reads this looks into Dwight's wonderful life in fiddle, button accordion, and reviving Denmark's lost musical heritage.
I knew Dwight. And he knew me. He was so gentle and mild mannered. I never knew him to have a cross word.
Yesterday, I was greeted by an Old time jam as I walked through the door of a large community center. 30 or 40 folks circled up and happily playing away on a "Dwight tune." I thought of all my FHO friends. There were folks I knew, and mostly folks I didn't know. There were folks I hadn't seen in 20 years. There were folks I had only seen in video sessions. Dwight was an early adopter of video. He had one of the first video reel to reel type machines that predated VHS video. Generously sharing his collection with me and others. One particular collection of Cyril Stinnett he generously gave me permission to put on YouTube.
I looked for a link to Dwight Lamb in Denmark. It is a movie of some high points of Dwight's musical life. All I could find was a trailer.
Dwight in Denmark
I sat and visited with an old friend who was with Dwight when he won Weiser in 1965. Then Cyril won it in 1966. Dwight was a judge. Not entirely sure of the dates. Amazing, active, long long life that truly lives on every life he touched. Could we all be so lucky?
