Cheers Scotty Its just standard GDAE .
Here's another one i just did with the same set up. just stood in a different place to play it
Had the great pleasure to play this with Jay and Molly last year at Fiddle Hell at an impromptu alcove jam. Just the 3 of us (until folks realized who was actually jamming). Its such a great melody and its done for Jay so very well over the years. I like hearing everyone's different versions of it; some note for note with Jay's, some with little bits and pieces of it interpreted, different tempos too. I like to pull this out when a string breaks on one of the other instruments, to fill in while the string gets changed. I play it very slowly, emphasizing the haunting aspect of it, hold the second to last note and break into 'The Year of Jubilo' a few times round. Pete, yours is nice n bouncy, good for folks to do the Vienna 3 step (waltz) to. I like the Scottishy hammer-ons. Version 2.0 all the way!
Sounds good, Pete. I think I like the second one better too. I like the "Scotch snaps," but I think the tempo makes it sound a bit like a strathspey in 3/4 time. Its such a great tune that it can stand a lot of interpretations, but I think Jay heard it as a Scottish tinged lament, full of nostalgia at the end of the season of music camps at Ashokan. Don't mean to redirect your thread, but if you haven't seen it you might enjoy this video of Fiddle Fever. These are the people that made the original recording, which I think was what was used in the Ken Burns Civil War film. The interplay between these long time friends is inspiring.

Thanks all for giving it a listen...It's just what came out.
i was more interested in what the cheapo mics sounded like. i put two cheapo Akai dynamic mics through a Nakamichi MX-100 straight into the front mic input of my computer and recorded it in Reaper DAW
