I hate draggy tunes. I playback most of the time, it sounds too slow. It doesn't feel so slow when recording. 145 Charlie is getting there. Even Waltzes don't need to drag. Just ask a Waltz dancer. We'll, anyway. . . .
On all stringed instruments, i think playing a slow tune really well is harder than playing it faster. Playing slowly allows listeners to hear your mistakes. Years ago I noticed that really good fiddlers at jams frequently wanted to play slow waltzes. I asked them why they did this. They said it was a great way to practice playing technique and with accompaniment. Lots of "long bows",vibrato, ornamentation.
There's no question in my mind: you have GOT to have come out of Cajun country! If you think you didn't, your parents are fooling you...lol.
I for one love the pace. I love your fiddling too.
I do agree, once I settle on a pace I like and record a tune, the first thing I notice on playback is that I don't remember playing it that slow...lol.
