This tune would have been played by minstrels in Baronial halls all across the country as well as in taverns in the depths of winter when the snow was 3 feet deep outside, and the only warmth was to be found inside the confines of the village inn. There are words which go with  this tune, which would be sung along with the performing musicians.

Oh that's a very nice tune...great job, Scotty!

I remember that one...I used to play in a recorder ensemble for the Madrigal Dinners every Christmas that we had in our little small town...we always played that one. Thanks for playing it again...I haven't heard it for decades now.
