I had no idea I'd connect with this style of fiddle music. Instead of hip hop, I'm hanging here today.

I found these references:
amazon.com/Frigate/dp/B00454U0MU
mainearts.maine.gov/directory/...tail/3895
Apparently from Maine. We had a member who was active in the Maine Fiddle Camp scene, but he hasn't posted in a long time. There's an album's worth of tracks on YouTube.

More like finger work! I thought you'd probably recognize some of the tunes.

Spootiskerry is what brought me here. I am actually digging the "missing banjo" sound on these takes. No offense to banjos for I love them equally but, it's nice to let the mandolin shine a little.

Off of the web:

The band is comprised of Steve Muise on Fiddle, Glen Loper on mandolin and banjo, and Fred White on guitar and percussion.

Frigate has played for weddings, parties, and contradances all over Maine and the east coast for 8 years.

All three members are instructors at Maine Fiddle Camp in Montville ME. Steve Muise teaches strings in Farmington ME. Glen Loper gives private lessons in mandolin and tenor banjo in Portland, ME. Fred White from Augusta also performs as part of the acapella group Improvox.

I love when an algorithm works in your favor. Not a style of music that really captured me but the more I try, the more the playlist grows. What makes sense to me is, my teachers is an Irish/Scottish player showing me bluegrass tunes. The 2 latest songs he mentioned (Flatwater Fran & Spootiskerry) I picked up VERY fast and can play them note for note, having never hear them before. I think this is why I'm happy with the fiddle as of late. Thanks for the info guys!
