OK, three hours of fiddling on Saturday, 5 hours on Sunday and now 2 today, and expected 4 tomorrow and another 4 on Wednesday... I simply can't explain why my arms are so sore.. This is not typical, but between two jam sessions, a contra dance gig and tourist town busking... I'm being put to the test..!
Next month I'll be complaining that I have nowhere to play! Ever have that happen to you??
I have gigs 6 or of the next 7 weekends split between 4 bands.
Practice schedule is very overwhelming. No good OT jams though. The only jams I get are bluegrass leaning and usually banjo, 4 guitars (minimum), mandolin, an octave mandolin and me. The bonus? Everyone can pick the heck out of their instrument and are very creative in this setting. The drawback? Minimum of 7 melody players passing around a break in bluegrass style means there is a lot less playing over the course is the afternoon compared to OT all the time. And the clip these guys like to play makes for less musicality over all. It is what it is, a jam, so I'll take it.
Miss you buddy, sounds like you are doing alright.

Miss you too, Billy.. I have a friend who is a great OT fiddler who lives in INDY but can't find any OT jams there, just jug band and Celtic...so he needs to travel to Bloomington to get his "fix''...I know what you mean about bluegrass breaks.. those guys are usually over the top talented, but can take forever to get through a tune!!..
I've often lamented that I couldn't pull together a high energy OT band.. Well, my fiddling daughter, Katie did just that.. Her, me and a strong guitar player and a banjo player became the Far Flung String Band. We played for the local contra and we had the dancers rockin'.. We got a lot of compliments about our energy and we can't wait to schedule again. The dance was two hours of Strong fiddling..after having busked for two hours in Nashville, Indiana...Just one more reason why my arms are tired. Tomorrow I was planning to do one hour busking at the local farmer's market and then two more hours downtown...I've opted to skip the market because...well.. MY ARMS ARE TIRED!!!..but I can't wait to hit the street for midday busking.. I never learn!!

Exactly... but why, just when my arms are giving out!! I know that you know that Katie can be a strong fiddler..Well, she has blossomed...Recently, I was reminding her that I'm almost 80, and if she wants to get more involved with OT, she needs to be pro-active.. She took my comment to heart and started scheduling jams on her own..Can't wait for all of us to jam again..
