I was fooling around with single strings, and it sorta spilled out. You can hear the rhythm section is slow, so I'm goofing around waiting for the chord change.
Ashokan Farewell
So just for contrast. I recently went to Nashville. They had these busses cruising around downtown. They seemed mostly to be filled with Bachelorette parties. Well, anyway I was inspired to write a song. There is fiddle in it. But it's not too Old Timey.

It's not so much that the rhythm section is slow, but that its in 4/4 time. "Ashokan Farewell" was one of the first in a series of waltzes that Jay Ungar composed that brought him a reputation as a modern day "waltz king." Although there are some tunes, like "More Pretty Girls Than One" and even "Blue Boston Boy" that have been played in both meters, I really prefer this one the way Jay wrote it.

Right again Doug,
I'd redo it, but it's too much treacle for me. Moving on. . .
Before you go - I don't want to take over your thread, but I just came across this video of the original members of Fiddle Fever performing this tune. Its just so nice to see these old friends still enjoying playing together, and I love Jay's reaction to the noisy child at the end of the first time through.

I don't really play this one, just because everybody else has, but its still a great tune.
