Apologies for an aside--
I don't know how much is truth, but the rise in popularity of the fiddle with Scots seems to be attributed to the 18th century ban on the pipes. I'm sure it's a lot harder to march with a fiddle, but it can sure make all the same piping sounds.
Well done, I've always enjoyed that tune. The book is a little hard to read, but the movie is good. It always made me feel like I was born 200 years too late.
Thanks for taking a look, I think your probably right about the pipes and such, I am not a scot myself, I have been there though, my own family is Irish, Dublin Downpatrick and Mullingar, but now Liverpool, Irelands second capital ;)
The book and the film are brilliant, I also love that period of history as well.
