let me in anyway this time instead of giving me some crazy long, redundant password that's a big pain to use or even write down to remember...so...well, whatever...I'm back, looks like. Ok...I won't look a gift horse in the mouth...here I am, here I am, apparently...lol...unless I've completely lost my mind, which is entirely possible at this point. But anyway...I sang a song today...wanna listen????

Very nice, Peggy. I think you're at your best with songs like this. Lovely photos too - looks like you've even found the "Ken Burns effect" button to liven them up a bit.
Have you ever heard Doc Watson sing this one, with Gaither Carlton playing fiddle?

Thanks, Pete...very kind words. Doug, yes, I think I saw Doc and Gaither on youtube, maybe? Or somewhere I seem to remember having heard that...and as always, nobody ever does it like good ol' Doc.  The best!  Thanks for the kind comments.

Loy, thanks for sharing your morning coffee with me once again...I truly appreciate it. As to how I got locked out...when I bit the bullet and bought myself a Macbook, to make my life "easier," (so far just been more complicated...lol...but maybe it gets better), it seems to me that's when FHO started locking me out and assigning me new crazy passwords that I got really sick of writing down. Yesterday I just tried with my old cheapo Chromebook and got right into FHO...so...I'm thinking it's got something to do with my switch to the Macbook???? Don't know...makes no sense to me, but here I am again on FHO with the old Cheapo Chromebook...so I might just set the high falootin' Macbook aside when I wanna get onto see my fiddlin' friends on FHO, and see if that'll keep me logged in...lol.

Well anyway, guys, thanks so much for givin' me a listen and the nice comments that help so much. Hope y'all have a great day.

And, yes, Doug, got the Ken Burns thing going on that Macbook imovie some now too...lol. Gradually learning, but it ain't ever easy for me...lol.

Peggy, the recording of Doc and Gaither is posted several places on YouTube, but I found this one with a couple nice photos and some comments from Doc: youtu.be/9we5tGOQs5s?feature=shared
An aside: Ralph Rinzler had recorded more of Doc's family than would fit on the Watson Family LP, but was unable to find anyone to release the additional material. He liked our band and wanted us to have copies to enjoy and learn from, so about 1973, Jenny Cleland and I drove in her old VW from western NY to Massachusetts and spent a weekend on one of the Elizabeth Islands, which are owned by his wife's family. Truly another world. We made copies of the tapes and learned some of the tunes, although I don't think we recorded any of them. "Marthy Won't You Drink Some Good Old Cider" was the first tune I ever tried that I thought I really might be "fiddling." Eventually Topic records put out the additional material, which is why its on YouTube now.

Cool. Have to watch for that. I'll have a look at the link too..thanks! From what I've heard of Gaither's fiddling...well I'll have to quote a rapper on that..."You can't touch this!" It's really so good it's hard for me to fathom playing his stuff that I've heard.

Peggy, I'd describe Gaither Carlton's fiddling as "old fashioned." Although he played some fiddle tunes I don't think he played much for dances. For both these families music was "home entertainment," with an emphasis on singing (which was also important in church). People today often describe fiddle playing as "dance music," but that's really only part of it.

Yeah he's good. I don't see fiddling as necessarily dance music...to me...I like it better as as sort of contemplative thing. But I'm just weird, ya know? That's what happens to people who study dumb stuff like philosophy during their college years...lol. I'm not big on dance. i know most people love it.
