I haev the chance to buy this lovely violin by Guan Zheng for around $1k usd. You can hear the sound which seems very lovely to my naive ears. Any thoughts please.

the audio file is from a 13 years old girl who has done grade 8 about 2 years go, so she would be pretty high up now. amazing little lady.

This violin looks to be a pretty common Chinese factory violin. At $1000 it’s not a bad deal of everything is pristine and you like the way it sounds. I wouldn’t necessarily expect to get that for it if you resold it, as a dealer can buy a violin like this or nicer for much less. If you do resell, you’re more likely to list it yourself to recoup the expense.

However, if the violin is one you’re purchasing as something to keep and you aren’t worried about resale, $1000 is a pretty reasonable price for a decently-made factory violin.

I’ve read the comments on Maestronet and agree with the sentiments that sound files aren’t very useful. Playing it in person will be the best indicator. I wouldn’t put any faith in stories about the violin that are sparse in details, either. At this level provenance doesn’t matter (even if Perlman played it and said it was great, it would still be a $1000 Chinese factory fiddle at the end of the day). I would focus on condition and how much you like it in person.
