Gary & Genevieve Harrison playing the Mississippi Sawyer. Gary is playing a "peanut", an instrument he concocted himself resembling a Greek lyre.

Mississippi Sawyer

His daughter is a mighty fine fiddler. I didn't even know about her until a few weeks ago.  Watching videos with her in them brought me to this video showing Garry playing a "neckless" fiddle he built and played. "Look ma - no fingerboard!"

I wish I had known about this a few weeks ago - while we were discussing whether the finger is what stops the string - or do we need to use a finger board.

smiley   yes

This would seem germane to the topic about not touching the fingerboard with your fingers. Oh, wait, I see it is a continuation of that. Very interesting. It appears he is only playing one or maybe 2 strings. It's hard for me to understand exactly what is going on. Cool though.

Gary was a 'one of a kind' person.. He didn't worry about conforming to what others expected.. His instrument making is still to be appreciated. He was a real gentleman and I miss him SO much..

Sorry Brian, the last was only intended as a passing comment. It was pointing back to that conversation, but I'm not interested in saying everything over again. That subject isn't really that important. It would have been nice to have known about this video during that discussion though/ It does make a point.  anyway...

This was really more about Garry and his "inventiveness" and talent - as well as his daughter. Novelty, yes. But worth noting. I don't think anyone would say that Garry was not a first class Old Time fiddler - extremely talented.
