I have only attended one Clifftop during the main festival and had no problem finding jams to join.
I'm an intermediate-level fiddler and can pick up tunes by ear fairly well. What chance of finding open jams would I have during the pre-camp?

Better than when the festival proper starts. By that time, the bands start rehearsing and folks who are waiting on friends to arrive have found each other and are catching up with one another and generally tightening their circles.
That said, of all the festivals I've attended, Clifftop is the most welcoming to strangers. I think that's because the number of folks traveling very long distances to attend is higher than other festivals. I met Canadians, Australians, Italians, Venezuelans and Irishmen (and women) last year alone. Do go. I hope to see you there!

Thanks for the info ChickenMan
I have a few more question. (No luck with the website provided phone number.)

The website says they will not allow access untill 9AM Thurs. the25th, but in the picing the pre-camp is shown starting on Friday.
Do you have experience with this day in limbo?

Is the cafetering during the pre-camp? Do they accept payment for with debit/credit cards? All other exchages were cash only during the festival.

Any recommended camping areas or typical availability for early birds?
