Hi All,
Can anyone help me out with tab or standard notation for the Grayson and Whittier (or any Grayson version) of Train 45? I’m working on learning by ear but, this one is going to need a few references! TIA.

It's on page 670 in "The Milliner-Koken Colletion of American Fiddle Tunes".

Also, GB is tuned "way down" to I think F#, although he's playing in "cross A." This tune is really about the train whistle, not even the train itself.

Do you know if Walt and Claire's book has it in the original tuning? I have been kick around getting their book.

They give the tuning as AEAE.

Thanks Doug, I had been trying to get the tuning figured. We're only about 40 mins away from each other (Elizabethton)

Mike, Walt and Claire's book considers any "crosstuned" tune to be in AEAE, regardless of the actual pitch. In this case, I was asked to put together a couple sets of GB's songs for Mountain City, and since I don't crosstune much I asked Walt about this one. He said yes he was, but tuned "way down." The sound of the tune really depends on that low (F#) open tuning.
