Not that I'm truly old or anything, but I'm old enough to have seen Heifetz, Grappelli and Isaac Stern in performance...separately, of course.

When I was 18 and scratching out a few notes on my new fiddle, my dad said, "someday maybe you'll sound like Heifetz".. Well, 60 years later I MAY sound like.....er... the next door fiddler who my dad had no use for..laugh

Well ... increasingly I notice that some great fiddler, or other species of artist, I have long admired, died long before he reached the age I am now.

I'm so old we still had a party line when I was in high school.

For those of you who are youngsters reading this, that had nothing to do with partying laugh

If you rang the grand junction operator, she would hunt you down, if you weren't at home. She'd ring the beauty parlor or the grocery store or the lumber yard, do what she could to connect the call.

Eric - That photo was in 1972. Even Jenny was 21 by then!
There's another photo on my page here of Rayna Gellert that I took at the 2003 Festival that also has the monument in the background. That thing is big.

Doug,
I think you have the dates switched on the pictures. The one looks as if the Washington monument had not yet fully emerged. While the other, it looks full grown.

Traveler: You lived here long?
Squatter: You see that mountain over yonder?
Traveler: Yes.
Squatter: When I come here, it was jest a little hole in the ground!

That's how I feel some days.

In 77 I was in the middle of a 550 section (not acres) New Mexican cattle ranch. It was a good thing. I was a detriment to others and myself.
