So, I've been wanting/needing a 2nd bow for my other fiddle and case. I've seen the bows with black hair and the description sounds like it's a little more "grabby....noisy" Anyone have one that they can share thoughts on. The hair on this one in particular is Siberian Horse hair that is NOT dyed. I'm not quite sold on it but I think it be cool to try.

Black hair is the coarsest hair. Bass players sometimes use it for extra grittiness and some fiddlers like it. The quality of most black hair is not great, which is why a bundle of it costs about 1/10 of the price of a good Mongolian stallion bundle.
It doesn’t do any harm to try it if you want something different, but I wouldn’t use it for tonal reasons.
A supplier I used to use offers several varieties of hair from premium Siberian to chestnut to black. When I started buying from them they sent me a set of samples to try. I’ve since used the black hair but still have some of the other samples sitting in a pouch next to my bundle. I haven’t had much reason to try them although I did play on a bow for a few minutes after a colleague rehaired it with one of them years ago. If anyone wanted to try one I’d be glad for the opportunity to use it up and clear the space in the workshop, but no one has asked.
