How do you like them?

For some reason all the piezo pickups loose the "woodiness." Mikes don't seem to. I was in a loud dance band, playing country stuff, it didn't matter.
Best BB pickup I have is for an acoustic guitar sound hole.

I played a Barcus-Berry fiddle for over 30 years. That's it in my sig-pic. Mine is from back when they used Hofner fiddles, painted them and installed their pick-up and control system. I had replaced the bridge/pick-up twice over its active lifetime. The best sound I got out of it was with a Fender Twin-reverb, with the treble set at 9-10 o'clock and mids about the same, Bass at 1 o'clock. That took out a lot of the nasty piezo noise and general 'quacky-ness'. Note the newer Fenders have different sweeps on the mids these days and don't sound the same or as good. Older amps are much better, warmer.

What are you trying to do with it? Certainly not the most accurate representation of your istrument, but useful for other reasons.
We had a member who achieved a great amplified sound with (I think) a B-B pickup, good preamp (very important) and a Fender Twin. It sounded lush and full.

I was invited to play with a start up country band. I think we're going to play mostly in noisy bars, so sound representation doesn't have to be the best.

I would politely decline that invitation. I have played guitar or banjo in a couple country bands, and had some interesting experiences (playing in a dive bar in Saigon in 1967 was an experience in itself) but its not really my scene.
Our late member who played (very well) in that style was jerry Holmes. Here's his homepage - you can check out some of his music: fiddlehangout.com/my/fujers
