Funny. The banjo player in a band I was in did it and the rest of the band took it up. We're in Northern California. Don't know where it started, but guessing maybe somebody like the Dillards...

Seems the guys I played it with did something like a little hop (we always stand whenever we play the bluegrass) during that jiggitty space in the coarse part.

Played a lot of bluegrass when I was younger, never experienced anything like that at a jam or festival in Missouri.
