Yep.. A good friend of mine had lived in Ukraine for several years until the war and then he moved to Romania. He is an excellent accordion and hammered dulcimer player.. Plus, he can play a banjo....but doesn't have a banjo..So, he called me and asked if I had any banjos for sale ( he lived in our town for several year so that is why I know him).. I showed him photos of two banjos I have for sale but I said that I hesitated to sell him a banjo he hadn't actually tried to play and I suggested that he try to find a banjo in Romania.. He (
) laughed.. He said that there are NO banjos in Romania.. to purchase one is impossible.. OK.. I made him an offer he couldn't refuse on the best banjo and shipped it to his father in Ohio, who will be taking the instrument to Romania......
That means that now, there will only be ONE banjo in Romania and it is one that I made from scratch..... "There goes the neighborhood". Romania is doomed...
Selling a banjo is neither here nor there, but it IS a good story, don't ya tink?
PS.. I also sent two complete sets of banjo strings.. Think about it..If there are no banjos in Romania, then there are probably no banjo strings available should one break..

Congratulations, Lee! You corrupted, er I mean converted the Romanian nation to the menacing, er I meant musical wonders of the American banjo! Lol...ok I love banjo but I also love making fun of them. But seriously...let's wait a few years and see what you've started in that country...lol...could be a huge banjo jam goin' on there before long. And your own constructed instrument...wow...they could start putting in orders!

You gotta love the Romanians , they are an island of the roman languages in the midst of the sea of slavic languages and they have Mihai Eminescu ... and now a banjo! I love this story <3
I have special memories from the many years I was teaching Dutch over Skype to Romanian nurses and doctors. Ever since a trip to Romania with my dog is high on my wishing list . I heard the best stories about the beautiful variety of nature and their fascinating culture.
Please keep us updated.
Nice to hear of all the beautiful and kind places left in this world...let's all hope and pray they will stay that way...and more will join them. I never got over the kumbaya phase...people laugh at it now...in my mind, we should all be singing it everytime we get together with a few others.
