I saw internet photos of lending libraries for DOGS>. Yep..box full of sticks, balls, and a frisbee! funny.. So, what would be in a lending library for fiddlers? 1. rosin? 2. earplugs for partner?
I like Swing's worn out strings idea.. How about posting an internet link to the Traditional Fiddle Tunes website? Everyone knows that a good fiddler needs someone to lend them a sheet music stand!!!
A jug of moonshine, a cheap beat-up old case with a rope tied around it to keep it closed and an improvised replacement handle made out of wire, and an assortment of bridges that don’t fit, are almost completely flat, and have grooves for the strings so deep that it takes effort to get the strings out if you try putting one on.
Just looked in my case, and here's what I'd suggest: Chalk and soap for treating your pegs (that Hill stuff is for sissies), felt earplugs, an old bridge for emergencies, a couple tune lists with some tunes you probably never knew to begin with, a handful of mismatched pegs - one might fit something, sometime, spare battery for a tuner (which must be in another case). That ought to do it. Oh yes, a couple fractional size strings in case you encounter some needy children.
One of those real, honest to goodness, chinrest clamp tools. Old tuners. How bout old dictaphone/ Walkman type recorders? I'd donate several Homespun DVDs. Just think, the last three items are obsolete today. I feel very old.
