Since you like to cross tune, you might try tuning the low string DOWN several steps to a low D, and your high string down one step to match D as it is finger Edom the A string. This is DDad tuning, sometimes referred to as Dead Man's Tuning. Makes your fiddle sound bagpipe-ish for this tune (and others).

Yes, it is a little 'floppy' (pretty much on everyone's fiddle, btw) but it still makes that nice low drone and well worth the extra effort it takes to tune it down.
