You play it the way it should be played , I think, if you listen to the notes. I play a more simplified version that I once read literally from the sheet music and I haven't really done the effort to improve this. (Doesn't take away the joy when I play my own simplified version though :-D)
Anyway, I think you made a great start if this is what you sound like after only 6 months!
Well done!!
Hup!!! Very well done and at only 6 months! Maggie In the Woods is a great little tune to really get your bow moving and crossing the strings. It's also great for incorporating both short and long bowing. The only thing I’d like to offer is to keep your short bows lighter and tighter, especially the triplets at the end of the phrases. Remember, trad. is an aural tradition. The music is taught and learnt through listening. For that reason, it’s seldom played as you would read it from music, since we often don’t use music. Where I’m going with this: you have the fundamentals down. You know the tune. Have a little fun and play with it. While the melody should always remain central, this is also a great little tune to get your feet wet with playing a little with phrasing and ornementation to make it your own. I look forward to hearing more!! Very well done, again!
