Old Time Fiddle Tunes

I'm sure a lot of folks know about this site, but I just found it... and I'm thinking that folks that don't know about it - will enjoy going through it.

Looks like a good resource. A lot of work went into it. Thanks to those responsible - for making it available.

If you are interested in bow performance, be sure to visit the link about the bows he builds. Some good information.

This is a great resource, so many tunes!

I just had to listen to "Getting George Bush Upstairs"... what a catchy title :-)

On the Getting George Bush upstairs...do they change the title of that one as the office of President changes???? Anybody know? I know where and when I grew up people used to laugh at political stuff but now they shoot each other over even saying the wrong name...lol...so...maybe not a good idea to change names, hey?

Have played on 4 of John's bows. All were amazingly well balanced. Of the 4 or 5 folks playing with me, we had different bows that appealed to us.
This year, Lee and I played tunes with John at the Indiana Fiddlers Gathering at Battleground Park. Great guy. The site used to be hosted by a college.

The info about John's bows is interesting.. I especially liked this comment about bows: This machine has demonstrated, among other things, that pressing down harder on the string does not increase volume (but makes the tone harsher). Increasing the bow's speed is a far more effective way to increase sound output.

Yes. I was going to include that very quote. Glad you did.

Thanks.

I tried to add it to the "Links" section of this site, but I don't think it worked.

Yep, I am trying to learn the bow pulsing thing...and yep, finding that it's more of a "speed up/use more bow" than a "press down harder" thing...
PS His bows look amazing...but if I got one, my bow would be worth more than my fiddle!

...that figures.  I would have been surprised if it hadn't.

John has been posting transcriptions for a long time. RobBob said he'd retired from the university, so the hosting changed. Never hurts to mention it again.

...and in case someone didn't travel to the bottom of the page - it would be worth mentioning - there are several links to other resources as well.
