Just sorta daydreaming on this one here...started in G, went to C...all in standard tuning...so that's pretty weird for me...lol...I cannot play in C in standard tuning, but I sorta fumbled around with it today.

You might be interested to know that this song was written by Billy Hill, from Boston, and first published in 1933 (in C). He also wrote "They Cut Down the Old Pine Tree" and "Wagon Wheels." I used to have the original sheet music, and it seems like I once downloaded it from the net, but its still under copyright and I don't see it online now.

Thanks, Doug. I know I've just heard this a lot somewhere along the way. Haven't heard the others but I should look for them, maybe.

This is GREAT! And I think your C playing is just fine! Thanks for sharing. My goal is to post something next year on my 1 year of playing the fiddle. Cheers (coffee mug clink)

Thanks Loy! It's a neat old song, isn't it?

I hear ya, Eric...I could kick myself for not starting to play earlier in life. But we can petal as fast as we can and get pretty caught up I think. I didn't pick up a fiddle until I was 55...I felt like it was too late, but it really never is...as you say...we can be glad we finally smelled the fiddle coffee and got busy. Enjoy the journey! I can't wait to hear you play when you're ready to climb out on that limb.

That's awesome! There doesn't seem to be a lot of "fiddle tunes" in C as there are D and A but I feel like the feel of C. Bill In the Low ground will be on my C radar once I get going. A buddy asked me if I tried cross tuning yet....Not yet. I thought it was important to get the 7 major scales down first. I haven't even begun to explore the different bow patterns yet. Once I get something chugging along, I'll get something recorded! Hosting a bluegrass jam tonight so expect a non fiddle post tomorrow some time.

Wow...already playing in C! Cool. I have always wanted to play Billy in the Lowground...it just doesn't sound right anywhere but C...I never have felt good in C on fiddle...it was always my favorite key for guitar picking and dulcimer...and even on banjo if I tuned the banjo to double C...lots of things are fun to pick there, but I'll be doggone if I can ever feel at ease on the fiddle in C...lol...anyway...that's cool that you like C...keep on fiddlin. Enjoy your jam tonight.
