What Steel Strings do you like the most??

I thank you all for some excellent info. Guess I will try some Dominants to see how they do on my "better" quality Violin. Now, another wonder in the Fiddle world. If I were to buy a cheap Chinese Fiddle what steel strings would you suggest for a beginner? I have tried preludes and find the G String so hard to play. Wondering if Helicores or Prims would be better?

Steel strings are "much of a muchness". IMO

Just got to learn to play the ones you put on your fiddle the best you can. But whichever you choose to put on, they will be vastly more durable, longer lasting, and consistent  than any synthetic or gut strings i have ever used.

I have been using dominant strings for a while now, and I like them. I think they give a good sound but like others have said, you need to change the e string.

I used Dominants forever and a day. Yes, they did unravel at the first finger on the A string and was really annoying when this happened at a gig. So, I used to inspect the A string with a magnifying glass and would change the string immediately at any sign of wear. I always kept my nails very short and since I changed my left-hand technique to a very light pressure, I don't experience the unraveled string anymore.
Recently I read some hype about Tonicas being equal in quality to Dominants, they took ages to stretch out and they began to unravel at the bowing area, no, I didn't change my bowing pressure and I didn't have them on longer than any other strings.
So, I'm back to Dominants, and I'm trying the 'Pro' model.

I endorse the Fiddlerman strings as an alternative to Dominants. $32.99 is definitely better. They're good strings.

String Madness, let's say that price is of little concern...there are lots of good strings out there... as Dominants are the industry standard which others are judged against, then trying varying strings on your instrument can get expensive and frustrating... over the years I have tried ( in addition to Dominants) Obligato, Eva Golds, Evas (green) ,Helicore, and several others....for the most part I have always come back to the Dominants with a replaced E string....well, more recently I have found a set of strings that I like best of all, Larsen Tzigane. they break in quickly, they are soft feeling like the Dominants and they sound great... the E string is really good... keeping them clean (as in all strings) seems to help them maintain a bright clear sound and easy to playing...after four months of playing them I still like them a lot....my go to string seller has additional 20% off strings several times a year, so that helps with costly string sets....

I went through a trying different strings stage and tried red label, prim, jargar, dominant, evahs and more I dont remember. I'm really liking Warchal amber now kind of middle of the road in price. Been getting them from fiddlershop
