My gear is not the newest, but my Fender amps have aux. inputs. I guess newer amps have built in Bluetooth. Anyway, I found a little black box, that fascilitates this. Initially, I wanted to connect my toy keyboard that has a really good drum machine. Then my buddy says, "why not just get a drum machine app on your phone?" Great idea. Why didn't I think of that? Then it blossomed into why not backing tracks like chordbot, or band in a box? Then, I started producing my own backing tracks, as nobody backs you up better than yourself.

Then I took it to the gig. Couldn't hear the count in. Oh well. But the venue owner's wife wanted to sing some esoteric tune we didn't know. I tapped on the Google mike, and said "karaoke of blankety blank." Bam! Ten seconds later, she was singing. So the bugs may have to work out, but score one for technology. Questions? Comments?

Based on the scenario you described and the way you plan to use your system, I would recommend a Powered Speaker/Monitor/Portable PA.

Yes, my partner is almost 89, and his hands are good for about 90 minutes. So I was looking for a quick and dirty solution to accompany myself. Without having to shell out for an amp with two independent channels. Anything going into an aux. input needs it's own volume control. The phone seems to provide that, but the mix needs to be dealt with for every different app. or file being played. A test run of the doo-dad every time it's my turn is clumsy. But there's many ways to get to the goal. BTW tried a looper sometime back. That wasn't the answer either.

Alas, all this could be solved if I'd just man up and, bring a guitar or banjer, and sing a song instead of insisting to play the fiddle exclusively. Either way seems like work.
