Sorry...this one has nothing but guitar and bass...plus voice. I just found a couple hours this afternoon to play a song and this ol' Doc Watson song popped into my head. Of course that made getting supper together sort of a rushed nightmare...lol...but that's what presonus'll do for ya. Anyhow...it's in A...no fiddle as I said, but just to be fair I did link to another one I had done several years back where I included fiddle and went easy on the guitar...because I know how to just keep boring people to no end...lol....seriously, don't click if you don't want to...of course. Hope everyone in FHO-Land is having a great day.

Great version of a great song Peggy. This is one of my favorites.

There is some debate about whether Doc Watson actually wrote the song. Perhaps someone can help identify who wrote it. Doesn't really matter, but it would be good to give credit where credit is due - for such a fine song.  I found this, but couldn't find the whole article:

"The song was written by Carson J. Robinson and recorded by Vernon Dalhart in 1927.The song was written by Carson J. Robinson and recorded by Vernon Dalhart in 1927."

Doc Watson does a good job with it - but it never grabbed me until I heard the Dry Branch Fire Squad's version. This version has been on a regular rotation for listening for years.  Yes, it is a more commercial version, but the harmonies and playing is excellent.

And this is another great version - a little more down home - with some good fiddle by .

Thanks Peggy. I enjoyed listening.

Thanks, Loy! Have a wonderful day.

Thanks, Tony. And thanks for the historical info and for sharing those links. I've really never heard it done except Doc. Seems it's such a great song there'd be more versions out there somewhere...thanks for the links.
