Saturday, July 23, 2022 is the Louisiana State Fiddle Championship at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, LA. Its part of the NSU Folklife Festival held every year there. It's all in the cool air conditioned indoors with jamming in the hallways. Lots of live music, dancing, food, and crafts. I'm looking forward to being there. Are any other Hangout members going? Let me know, I'd like to meet you.

Are there fiddlers in Louisiana who don't play Cajun tunes? I once read a review of book on fiddling from Louisiana and the reviewer lumped all of the fiddlers into the Cajun category. In my gut I find that hard to believe.

There is a lot more to Louisiana than just Cajun. We have all sorts of music, food, and folks down here.

No, it's true, outside of Bourbon street, everyone in Louisiana is Cajun, they only speak French (poorly),  the sole source of transportation is a pirogue, not a one of them can tune a fiddle properly, and everything they eat has onions, peppers and celery in it.

Ok, I'm just joking (except for that last part, you can't make a meal without the holy trinity!).

Dewey Balfa told me, it's not gumbo until the okra goes in. '-)

I really enjoyed the 2022 Louisiana State Fiddle Championship. One fiddler even played a Cajun tune in the competition!
