What is the proper procedure for sharpening a traditional S style soundpost setting tool? Any good tips would be greatly appreciated.

Well .... you can use a piece of emery cloth to finish the edge. If it is really dull you may want to start with a fine file. Figure 15' as a good angle to sharpen. Keep in mind sharpening is as much an art as a skill. There are MANY different opinions on how to go about it. Take your time. A diamond stone is a good tool to have for any sharpening gig. R/

I just use a file, after I've shaped the point properly. This is the setter I've been using every day for 10-12 years. Works well for me. Main thing is to get the shape right. I use an Xacto no 11 knife to start a slit for the tool.
