Once, several fiddlers all said that I had been a big influence on their fiddling..!>..??? I had only given a couple of them ONE lesson... Apparently, sometimes just getting a little Nudge can propel a fiddler to a new level.. I felt honored. Before one can teach, one must learn..!
When I was 16 and mowing the lawn, the neighbor, Mr. Brown who was from Kentucky, was on his porch playing his fiddle.. I was too bashful to ask him about fiddling but just HEARING what he did was a Nudge that stuck with me for years and was the catalyst to my desire to play a fiddle..
How about you.. Given? or Received a NUDGE...

Watching some fiddlers on Youtube can inspire me - and teach me humility.
I need a nudge of some kind. After two years of playing, I am stuck. I still love to play, and I still practice and play regularly, but I have definitely hit a plateau. If i'm not being overly modest, or braggadocios, I would classify myself as an advanced beginner at fiddling. I guess it's to be expected that progress comes in leaps and bounds at first and then it's incremental from then on, but I sure wouldn't mind a few more "leaps" now and then.
doryman, didn't anyone tell you that in learning/playing the fiddle that you make progress in steps..... just keep playing and the next step up will come as a complete surprise...it happens to all of us....
