This is unedited video for a TV show, with all kinds of fiddling, step-dancing, and square-dancing from a well-known, um, 'cultural landmark' of the Ottawa Valley - Gavan's Hotel, in Quyon, Quebec.  It's from the mid-1970s.  The audio is weak, but some of you may just enjoy the scene.

A lot of the older gents probably worked in the lumber camps in their younger days.

Thanks for posting this. I haven't had a chance to watch the whole thing, but it renews my faith in the FHO! I think I still have a map of the Ottawa Valley on my laptop, and I think you probably saw the Mac Beattie video I posted from another hotel. I used to live in the "southern tier" of NY state, and our little town had a couple hotels with a similar function.
Maybe more later. Cheers!

Glad you enjoyed it. And here's one that brings it all together: Gail Gavan is the young one who plays the spoons and step-dances with her grandmother in the video; her grandfather is Lennox Gavan, the proprietor of Gavan's Hotel - he sings a Mac Beattie song at the end of that video, and is known to folklorists as a 'traditional' singer; here grown-up Gail Gavan sings a Mac Beattie song on a theme close to our hearts around here - "Old Tyme Fiddler's Dream" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ydonaax495Y&list=PL9nYIzaF1_qbDUAVKBXZmKk7PjgJ5KXhR&index=6

And here she is doing another Mac Beattie hit:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rj193YwXNIE&list=PL9nYIzaF1_qbDUAVKBXZmKk7PjgJ5KXhR&index=9

Thanks for these. I spent my teens in Ottawa and some time in Petawawa in the 1970s, but haven't even thought about Quyon for over 40 years. You can sure tell that people are from the Ottawa Valley from the accent, can't you?

These videos were fun.
