Tried some Washington County tonight. A couple breaks I’m learning that come from a performance by Justin Branum at the Station Inn.

Got a way to go yet, but it's getting close...

thanks Peggy.
Well, it's not easy for me anyway...

I check fairly regularly, but I haven't seen anything new from John's site yet.

Good work on a difficult task. I'm sure you're aware of some intonation problems but I wouldn't even try that one!
I just realized that the Kenny Baker album with this tune is available on YouTube, and I hope you won't mind if I post the link: youtu.be/eKY1NqpxaIM
When we started the Highwoods Stringband we had a relatively small mutual record collection that we listened to for tunes and general inspiration. One was this, along with the duet album with Joe Greene. A great album by a wonderful fiddler!

Those albums are both gems Doug. Good to remind folks of them.

thanks guys!

Doug, yeah...I'm aware of more problems than the intonation in spots, but most things work out eventually. It's a work in progress.
That is a great album...been working on First Day in Town also, but have a bit further to go before I try recording it.

Thanks for the comments!

First Day In Town is also a handful. I learned all the tunes on KB Plays BM years ago and still work on them ..... Master Fiddler is another good one...... work for the rest of my life. R/

Yours & mine both Richard.

I couldn't really pick a favorite album Kenny's done, I just flat like his playing.

The only tune I sort of learned from that album is "High Dad in the Morning," which I play like a low level single string old time fiddler. Several years ago I was in my luthier's shop, nudging a soundpost around in a newly repaired auction purchase, and I started playing that tune. The other customer there said "I'd forgotten about that one" and proceeded to play a nice rendition with all the doublestops. I thought "Hmmm, maybe I should be more industrious," but by the time I got home I fell back into my lazy ways. Should have asked him to show me how to do it.
Last week I got to wondering where that tune comes from, and apparently Kenny learned it from a tape of Doug and Rodney Dillard's Dad, who was also a fiddler.

Hats off to anybody who can play that tune well. I know Justin. He's a very nice guy. He has a website where he has a lot of instructional material available. His version of "Washington County" might be on there. I'm not sure. https://www.justinbranum.com/

His instructional site is actually masterfiddle.com

He does teach that tune on his website.

I agree he's a very nice person. Been learning from him over the .net for a few years now and he's helped me immensely. Got the chance to finally meet him in person this last Oct.
