There's lots of grain tunes, although I believe most about corn have to do with moonshine. Well anyhow, here's a tune about rye, not whiskey, just rye and Sally...we all know her, she ends up in the middle of a lot of old tunes...the only problem is you have to watch my youtube about corn, nixtamalizing corn to be specific. This is what indigenous people in the New World always did with corn to make it into a super food...tons of minerals and vitamins unlocked by that process...it's basically sorta like soap making...you use food grade lye...i.e., pickling lime...calcium hydroxide...found in store shelves along with canning products, whereas in soap you use the sodium hydroxide type lye, which is much more caustic. If you make your own hardwood ash lye you end up with potassium hydroxide...well, I'll just quit talkin' on that stuff, because I've veered off topic now, but the Europeans seemed to have hung onto the nixtamalization process only for hominy and grits, not really the dough or flour you can make from it...this video is about corn, "liming," or nixtamalizing the corn, to unlock those vitamins that once saved early Europeans from pellagra, after indigenous folks showed them how to do that...where was I now??? Oh yeah, this video is about corn, yet the tune is about rye...oh yeah and about Sally too. I had to slap it on there twice plus put a little bit of Drifting too far from the Shore on there to get to the end of the corn excitement. Anyway...could be a topic in and of itself..."Grain Tunes." Except my tune and my video don't quite grow in the same garden lot.

Peggy, Thanks for the entertaining video.

Would you mind divulging your tuning for

Coming Through The Rye. Thanks.

Yikes...I was afraid somebody would ask me that. I had recorded that a couple weeks or so ago, didn't care much for what I had done with that tune, and didn't put it up on my youtube channel...looking for music to go with my pop corn video...I found it as an mp3 in my files...I didn't write down how I tuned. Let me try my best to figure it out and I'll get back with you on that. Sorry 'bout that.

Ok...I listened again and remember now I was in GDGD...I was playing the minor parts in first position and the other parts worked out for me in second position...but that really doesn't matter...just...it was GDGD. Almost forgot what I did...lol.

That was interesting, and similar to what my mom fixed when I was a kid, they were really delicious as I remember. Excellent job on the fiddle too! Loved the tunes!

Dwight...I feel so honored that you'd wanna play SCTTRye somewhat based on my idea...gee whiz. I hope to hear it one of these days...I'm sure you'll play it really nice and hope you enjoy the tune. Thank you.

Thanks, Lee!

Thanks, Loy! That's a nice memory, how moms used to make all different types of griddle corn cakes and such...I guess living in the age of fast food might have changed a lot of that for a big part of the country. Corn is still king of the grains here though, I think, probably especially out where you are. I know the old folks used to make their own hominy, but they later found it easier to just buy hominy and grits. I've heard about making it yourself, but I never did try it until the other day. Not really as involved as I always figured it must be. We all have good memories of what those before us put on the table, don't we? Thanks again.

Pegggy, you are very talented! You're filming the documentary, you're playing the fiddle, and you're doing some commentary too! My hat's off to you, Madam.
