by way of intro (being new to this forum and to fiddling) am posting a sample.

Lovely waltz written by Jay Ungar, learnt from YouTube.

Don't laugh guys, I know it still sounds too classical.
I think I need to tone down on the vibrato...overall it's OK...but hmmm I think I don't sound "relaxed"enough? It's still got too much of a classical player's 'assertive' way of playing, yich...

NC, your song does not show up...you have to upload it to your profile and then attach it to the posting...something like that

I like A/F a lot, my mother (piano) and I played it for family when I moved away--teary situation

Down at the bottom of this page there is the place to upload. Select "mp3" hit "upload mp3" and follow the prompts. THEN you might be able to actually attach it, but I think last time I did this via a post, it attached to the post because I uploaded it from the comment area rather than my media area of the site.

Thanks guys, I got stuck on this!

I am not sure if this did it?
I uploaded the MP3 via the "Media" link in the left side of the dashboard instead...

Just listened again...
So I think I need to cut the vibrato down a lot.
And make the end simpler (no ornament).
And make it more gentle/sad...

(Sorry about the long silence at beginning! I also don't know how to edit audio yet. Who knew fiddling would involve such technical expertise?!)

If anybody else plays this, would love to hear your version (if you are willing to share!! :-)

Well, I thought it was nice. How much vibrato or ornamentation you want is up to you, and you just need to play it a lot to get fluid with it and decide what you like. Have you been listening to Jay play it? I think he's a classically trained violinist and I'm sure uses some vibrato.
As far as editing audio you'll need a program and I can recommend one called ocenaudio. ocenaudio.com/en/startpage
Itsfree, capable, and fairly easy to learn, with a nice interface.
Apparently there are several ways to upload audio here. I just go my homepage and do it through the "Media" tab.

I think it's very nice, too. For a tune like that the vibrato is fine. Don't try to take it all out. When I play that tune (and other waltzes) I'm aware of my lack of vibrato control and wish I had more of what you have.

Yea I learned from Jay Ungar's video on YouTube...found out later, that he composed it!

PS - When I mentioned Ocenaudio I was thinking of a Windows PC, although its multiplatform. There are lots of audio recorders and editors for Android and iOS too. One amazing one, although its complex and not free, is Audio Evolution Mobile, which is a complete multitrack recording app.

That's nice, i don't hear to much Violining per se, but i do hear plenty of nice slides and leading notes. Chuck in a few double stops in the right places, a bit of improvisation, and it would sound like a real tasty fiddler imo. Great tone and intonation btw! Thanks for Uploading.

There's nothing about this to critique yourself about.  Don't lose the vibrato.  I don't know why fiddlers are so ashamed of vibrato.  Like Ecclesiastes chapter 3 says:  there's a time for vibrato and a time for not.laugh

Pretty songs like this, TN waltz, KY waltz, etc--vibrate deeply.  23rd measure with A octave, vibrate that pinky with no apology.  But, tunes with titles regarding chickens, possums, and such--no vibrato.

This recording sounds nice and fiddly to me.  Well done.

Okayyy, maybe I'm a bit hard on myself?
Maybe I try a little too hard to be like, "That sounds like fiddling" and "That doesn't." :-)

Yep I'll cut the vibrato on tunes concerning critters!
Unless it is a sad lament about a possum that crossed the road one night, at the wrong time...
