Had another shot at "Huckleberry Hornpipe" after reading here that Byron Berline had passed away.

Yes, such a sad occasion.

I might try that tomorrow, today I finished off with an attempt to Road to Columbus.

I recently learned a great tune called Ponytail Swing, a Canadian tune written by Randy Foster, the fiddling fireman.... key of C, with lots of exercise for the little finger... that was the last tune that I just played

Czardas Largo?? Is that a fiddle tune? You'll have to post it! :-)

OK, edit...sorry it's not a fiddle tune...
I looked it up, I guess you meant the Andante Largo section of the Czardas, composed by Italian composer Monti and based on a Hungarian csardas...quite a piece of music to work on! phew!

Sight-read through Sweet Georgia Brown. It sounded very rough.

Ooh! SGB is a TOooNn!
Does it not change keys, then go back? Maybe like 3 times?

Hmmm, I guess it does. My mind wasn't really in theory mode. I just wanted it to sound close to correct. I always liked the tune; used to hear it on Saturday mornings, on the Harlem Globetrotters cartoon.

Yes, that's the one.  And, that movement is not really that difficult.  To play the whole work needs accomp, though.

I count it as a fiddle tune because it's a folk dance.  The Gypsies play it on violin.  As well as Brahm's Hungarian Dance No. 5.

Lately, the first tune that pops out of my fingers is the main theme of the first movement of Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 5. I have no idea what key where it's supposed to be played. I just play it in D. It's a jaunty, happy little tune that easily fits under the fingers.
