Yep.. I THINK that that is the name of a tune I heard Claudio Buchwald play years ago.. I play it but it has been so long that I need a refresher 'hearing'.. I've tried to contact Claudio but have not heard back.. Are any of you familiar with a tune by that name? "leaving town"...

Was it an instrumental tune or a song? There is "Leaving Home" a variant of the Frankie and Johnny songs.

Thanks for your reply.  I'm not aware of words.. Just another notey fiddle tune.......bordering on 'rag' but not. I have fun playing it..Still haven't heard back from Claudio, the guy I originally heard  it from..

It is on this play list. discogs.com/The-Monks-Ragged-B...e/5740592

Track 14. I think that label was John Herrmann's.

Here are the band members: Claudio Buchwald, Frank Hall, Abby Ladin, Sam Bartlett. I know that Abby and Sam are pretty active on Facebook. I think I have seen Frank Hall's name around, too.

Looks like you could buy the CD on County Sales: https://www.countysales.com/products/22898

Thanks for that.. Sam Bartlett is a good friend of mine and I'll contact him to see if he can get me an audio without having to buy a CD!!! Sam's wife is Abby Ladin (she cut my hair when I had some...for years)...Frank Hall moved to Ireland years ago... and I'm not in touch with him... Again, thanks for the Sam connection.. that may get me what I want to hear..

If you talk to Abby, ask her if she remembers the old Highwoods Stringband staying at her house when she was a youngster. I hope we were a positive influence!
This thread got me listening to "She's Leaving Home" by the Beatles - quite a melancholy song.

Doug, I'll do that.. She cut my hair for years but after a while I was so remiss in making it to the appointments on time that I just had to stop going to her out of personal embarrassment.! I'll text her NOW ..and get back to you..

I got distracted by Doug's post.. Anyway I meant to say that although I seldom have used this forum, I've always been pleasantly surprised by the Wealth of knowledge that is available here on the Hangout.. Every query has been satisfied to the 'nth!!!

I actually knew her and her sister Evie when they were teens going to Ashokan Fiddle and Dance Camp with their dad back in the 1980s.

Doug... Abby didn't waste time responding.. she said, when I asked if she remembered you guys playing in their home:

"Duh, of course! We stepped over their sleeping bodies in our living room many times, and they played for our dance routines too (Evie and me)...Tell Doug hi from Abby and Jay."

Yes. Great family.. Jay, their father is still around.. I see him walking downtown when I'm busking.. He is NOT 'leavin' town!!!

At the risk of getting "OFF TOPIC" yikes......... Abby and Sam have three children and all play violin.. The two youngest are Twins, a boy and girl, Ruth and Stephan... anyway.. Those two are now about 12... and are a pair of whirlwind Old Time Fiddlers.. I think they won honors at Clifftop last year...

I finally DID hear back from Claudio.. He says he remembers the tune but also says he never learned it?? Maybe it wasn't him who I learned it from but rather Frank Hall who played twin fiddles with Claudio on the Ragged But Righteous Cd often..????

Steve - Its never out of place to link to Tuba Skinny, but this song was mentioned earlier in the thread and Lee said it wasn't what he was looking for. Not a Charlie Poole tune really, but one of the many pop/jazz numbers he recorded. BTW I think that's Maria Mulduar barely visible a couple times at the left of the frame. She and TS have a new album out - there's an hour long release party on YouTube. youtu.be/Bm0yUQf5Gms

I read it Doug. I was hoping that long intro, with the six or seven melody/harmony lines would jog Lee's memory. Possibly he heard the tune but with no lyrics? Oh, well. Yes, Tuba Skinny is the Cat's Pajamas.

No. I know Claudio, and I'm sure he's familiar with "Leaving Home." If that was it he would have told Lee.
Its all a mystery to me.

Hmm.. I thought I'd replied to this but maybe not..! I was surprised that Claudio said he didn't play tune, but I DID get the CD and DID get to hear the tune.. Fortunately, I'd been playing it correctly all along and was pleasantly surprised.. Yes, Abby DOES remember you guys hanging around.. I'm going to inquire if there are any videos of her and Sam's kids fiddling.. That would be a treasure to watch..
