Background: I have been searching for the optimal chin rest/shoulder rest solution since I started playing the fiddle 16 years ago. I had mostly settled on a slightly taller than normal chin rest and no shoulder rest. I am tall and have a long neck, and I never liked the way shoulder rests seemed to raise the fiddle, plus the hassle of taking them off and on, keeping up with them, etc. In early 2020 I started having some shoulder pain and a pretty major reduction in range of motion in my right shoulder. Luckily I did a course of physical therapy that got me back to 90-95% after several months. I had always blamed my 8+ hours a day on a computer for any neck/shoulder pains that I had, but I finally had to face the fact that fiddling might have had a role in my shoulder impingement. So the search began anew.
Cutting to the chase: After trying a couple of different shoulder rests without satisfaction, I came across a tall adjustable chin rest called the Kreddle. It is the bomb! The Kreddle is adjustable in height AND several angles so you can really customize it . It takes some tinkering with it to get it dialed in (I'm not sure I've got it to the ideal position yet, but it is within reach!) I am still not using a shoulder rest, but I did purchase the Kreddle cushion which provides a bit of a non-skid surface for my collar bone that I really like. The chin rest is a bit pricey at $98, but the site is currently running a 10% off promotion which makes it more affordable.
Anyway, I thought I would pass this information along for anyone who is still searching for a good fit like I was.
