I am looking forward to when the signs are in the neck, arms, and breast--this year April 20 thru Jul 22.

Maybe then all my winter-time fiddle practice will pay off.

On the light of the moon, of course.

Then the oak leaves will be the size of a squirrel's ear, and time to plant the corn...the whittledings will holler out and time to plant all the rest. Then you'll be too busy to play the fiddle much, hey?

Well, I'm mainly a grass farmer, though we do grow a little sweet corn and vegies to put up and maybe a little extry for truck.

Longer days = porch time and visiting = fiddlin w/ musician friends, homemade wine, overall good times

I try to foller the signs when setting posts, planting, castrating calves and so forth. Almanac doesn't specify fiddlin, but I've been told you do best when the signs are in the arms...

This year, the sun is in the arms starting May 21, and the moon is in the arms about the same time, so whip out those fiddles late May and you'll play as good as Johnny...

Johnny Gimble????

We used to plant by the signs...now I just feel lucky to get the time whenever I can to get stuff started and hope for the best. Last winter I started feeding the local squirrels (not a good idea, but I'm a sucker), fed them innards of butternut squashes...then in springtime when I planted my b. nut squash plants, apparently they planted theirs too...I'm wondering if they went by the signs...lol...mine did ok, but in the spot where I had usually fed the squirrels, there were bigger, healthier, and more productive butternut squash plants. So...they are pretty good farmers, those squirrels...I know, I know they taste good too...but I haven't eaten a squirrel in about 50 years and they are such pets now...they are both pests and pets...when we drive up to the house the local squirrels come running to greet us like dogs do...it's pathetic, the hungry monsters I've created.

Well but anyway, yes time to get those fiddles out and enjoy good weather and good fiddling...good friends too...not to mention squirrels.
