Last year I picked up a sorry looking German trade fiddle, stripped of everything and a cracked front plate for practically nothing at a local flea market. Last winter I repaired the crack and added what was needed to make it play. Tuned up in standard let's just say it was OK, certainly nothing to rave about. I set it aside until a few days ago when I started messing with GCGC tuning with my best player. I really love how the drones with this tuning can make a fiddle growl. Well, after a day or so I needed to put the best player back in standard and decided to try the flea market fiddle with GCGC tuning. I've been playing it all morning now and can't get over how great it sounds. Think I'm gonna' just leave it this way.
