Here's an idea to mess with. Have you seen those political quadrants or compasses? What if we apply the same basic concept to music, instead, more specifically to fiddling?

So you mean, on the X axis style A would be at one end, with style B at the other?
So what would be on the Y axis?
Then i would place myself on the intersection or what?

I don't really want to pursue this, but I'm guessing this is what Daniel is thinking about. A handy chart: sharmusic.com/Pages/How-To/Str...ng-Chart/

You may have a point. Tons of pop ups. If I remember correctly, the site wasn't like that in the past. Sorry.

Something like that. I'm not totally serious about it. It's just a rough idea to mess with. Thanks for the link.

Let's say there's a scale of -10 to +10 on each axis. I suppose they could be whatever you wish. Maybe the X axis could be "short bow vs. long bow" and the Y axis could be "straight melody vs. improvisation". A few people come to mind. Ralph Blizard use a lot of long bowing, and people say "He never played a tune the same way once.", while Ernest Ridgeway also used a lot of long bowing, but usually stuck to the straight melody. Drew Fedak is a short bower who plays it straight, while Graham Williamson, whose bowing was similar, was known for improvisation. I'd put all four in the "Old-Time" category, but each has his own sound. I haven't really placed anybody on this hypothetical graph. It's just something to ponder.
