We go to the Big Island of Hawaii every year to dive and buy wood. A guy in one of the Ukulele shops there wanted me to build him a 5-string fiddle from Koa. This is what I came up with. It’s a remarkably good sounding fiddle. His shop is closed now so I’m enjoying it. He may have to wait for the next one??

Just wish I knew how to upload photos. Tried twice with no luck. Any ideas?

Upload the photos to your page here then attach them to a post. You may not be able to do this until you have a certain number of posts, but I'm not sure. Just keep trying - its your thread.

Looks like you did some great work there. That is the first violin made out of Koa

surprised you used it for the top also, I have a cheap chinese with a maple top, sounds ok, I had to replace all the parts , nuts, fingerboard,bridge , pegs , was not worth the effort . you did a nice job there !! I like you austin powers movies too!!

Thanks. Koa is very "musical" so I thought it would work for the top. It’s not as strong as Spruce so I left it about 1/2 mm thicker. I didn’t like the tap sound so I took it down to normal Spruce top graduations. It gets better every day.
